Thornton woman, dog presumed dead after going missing near Clark Fork River in Montana

A missing Thornton woman is presumed drowned in the Clark Fork River in Montana according to Missoula Police Department.

Police determined Danit Ehrlich, 33, and her dog, Bamba, likely drowned in the river, which surrounds Jacobs Island Bark Park, Ehrlich’s last known location, according to a Facebook post from the City of Missoula Police Department.

Police are continuing their recovery efforts as of Feb. 24. No evidence has been found that Ehrlich or Bamba exited the river, despite an extensive search using drones and ground teams, according to another Facebook post from Missoula Police.

Ehrlich was traveling to Tacoma, Washington, for a nursing job, according to a Facebook post she posted on Feb. 14. Ehrlich and her boyfriend had planned to sublet their apartment in Thornton, according to that post. Missoula police pronounced Ehrlich missing on Feb. 22, according to a Facebook post from the department.

Missoula Police are urging the public to avoid the Clark Fork River due to dangerous conditions.

“The ice, swift currents, and unpredictable terrain pose significant risks, and we want to ensure that no further injuries or emergencies occur,” Missoula Police said in the post.
