FRAZEE, Minn. (Valley News Live) – Two property managers of a Frazee mobile home park are speaking out after finding a dead dog outside of a trailer.
It was a sight they never thought they’d see. William Jupitz and Matthew Abraham recently stumbled upon a jarring scene at a home, located at 30397 US-10, Frazee, MN.
This is the same address where a man was shot and killed in August of 2024.
“When I got up to the door, I saw a dog’s foot out of the corner of my eye,” said Abraham. The two saw a dead dog, frozen and covered in a blanket near the front door of the residence.
The dog’s owner is a previous tenant, who was recently evicted in January, 2025. The property is currently unoccupied, so the dog was assumed to be left in the frigid Minnesota temperatures for weeks.
“If this was your family, why did you throw it out with the rest of the trash?” Jupitz asked.
The landlord took to social media, posting photos of the dog, which gained lots of local attention. Several viewers contacted Valley News Live with concerns regarding the post today.
We reached out to the Becker County Sheriff’s Office who revealed they are actively investigating this situation.
They say preliminary information indicates the dog did not die from exposure to the cold. At this time, investigators believe the dog died of an infection, indoors, which it saw a veterinarian for.
Authorities say the owner, with the help of another individual, wrapped the dog up and moved it outside after it died. The owner said she planned to bury the dog once the ground thawed, or cremate him when she has the funds.
Jupitz, however, isn’t buying it. “If you claimed to take your dog to the vet to get it treated, and it was terminal, why didn’t you have the vet just euthanize it instead of bringing it home to suffer?”
Becker County officials say while some may question the decision to leave the dog outside afterwards, the owner is not found criminally responsible.
A Valley News Live crew went to the house where they were met with Becker County officials as well as the dog owner. Legally, the owner is not allowed on the property due to the eviction, but removed the animal under police supervision.
While our crew was on the property, a cat could be seen inside the window.
We spoke to authorities on scene and indicated an animal, and maybe more, are still in the home – a home nobody has access to. The two men tell us the tenant has not occupied that space for weeks now.
“Is that my responsibility to remove?” Jupitz asked the officer. The deputy shook his head no.
The owner did not take the cat with them while discarding of the dog carcass, nor did they agree to my requests for comment.
Right now, it’s unclear if other animals are still in the home.
Valley News Live is not naming the owner of the dog since no criminal actions have been taken. The sheriff’s office says they are still actively looking into the case and things could change. They have requested additional documentation to back up their preliminary findings.
Their full statement can be read here:
“Normally we don’t comment on active investigations, but I do see where it might help on this to keep it from blowing up since it had been posted on social media. We are aware of the dog as we received a complaint on this just before lunch today. We are still investigating, but we have some preliminary information that the dog DID NOT die from exposure, but died from a known infection (mastitis?) indoors and had been seen by a veterinarian for this. The dog owner, with assistance of another individual reportedly wrapped the dog up and moved it outside after the dog had passed away and placed it on the couch cushions. We are still looking into this and confirming information we were provided, but do have some supporting information related to the infection that has already been provided. While some may question the decision on leaving the dog outside afterwards (she says she plans on burying the dog once the ground thaws), we don’t see anything criminal at this point related to the death of the animal for cruelty charges, unless we learn something more or we don’t get the additional documentation we have requested. Things could change as this is “under investigation”, but I hope that sheds some light on this incident to curb some of the passionate remarks being made and explains the photos that were posted.”
