BECKER COUNTY, Minn. (Valley News Live) – The Becker County Sheriff’s Office is revealing information from their investigation into a viral Facebook post, surrounding a dog’s death.
The post includes photos of a dog that appears to have frozen to death outside of a home in Frazee, Minnesota.
Several concerned viewers contacted Valley News Live about the post on Tuesday.
The Becker County Sheriff’s Office says they don’t normally comment on active investigations. However, they want to shed some light on the case since it’s reached so many people.
They are aware of the dog and received a complaint just before noon Tuesday.
They’re still investigating. However, preliminary information indicates the dog did not die from exposure to the cold.
At this time, investigators believe the dog died of an infection, indoors. They say the dog had been seen by a veterinarian for this infection.
Authorities say the owner, with the help of another individual, wrapped the dog up and moved it outside after it died. The owner said she planned to bury the dog once the ground thawed.
Becker County officials say while some may question the decision to leave the dog outside afterwards, it is not a criminal action.
The sheriff’s office says they are still actively looking into the case and things could change. They have requested additional documentation to back up their preliminary findings.
Authorities hope the information sheds some light on the incident and curbs some of the passionate remarks being made.
