TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – Smith County Animal Control euthanized several dogs Monday that were previously rescued from a dogfighting ring.
Ten of the 11 remaining dogs were put down out of a need for more space in the shelter, according to Smith County Animal Control and Shelter Supervisor Amber Greene.
“After several efforts to get adopters and rescues were unsuccessful, it was the last option we had,” Greene said in an email to KLTV. “We had several dogs that were here for six months with absolutely no interest at all.”
Greene said the eleventh dog was picked up Monday by a rescue shelter.
The dog-fighting ring was originally discovered in September of 2024, resulting in the arrest of two Tyler men and the seizure of 60 dogs and two cats from a Tyler property.
