How service dogs are improving veterans’ lives and mental health

ORLANDO, Fla. – Monday morning on Breakfast with Bridgett, increasing awareness for mental health care and options for veterans.

T.D. Hood is a veteran who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after serving for 5 years in a combat-related environment.

He sought therapy for his stress and anxiety and now wants to encourage other veterans who might be struggling, to reach out.

With the help of his therapist and K9s for Warriors, Hood was able to find a forever friend in his service dog, Cooper.

He says the process has changed his life for the better.

“I think everybody should have a counselor, a therapist, who’s helping you with some of the problems we have, PTSD-wise and talking to your therapist like I did. (My therapist) said I think you’ll benefit from a service animal and I did,” Hood said.

“The first 3 years here in Orlando after moving from Maryland were tough, but when I got Cooper and come back home with him, life has been so much better.”

K9s for Warriors has placed more than 1,000 service dogs since 2011. For more information, head to the K9s for Warriors website.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
