The ACSPCA took in over 50 chihuahuas after it was discovered that the animals were housed in deplorable conditions.
State troopers said the home on the 1300 block of Old Harrisburg Road was filled with feces and urine to the point it was “impossible to step anywhere without stepping in feces,” according to charging documents.
The majority of the recovered animals were placed in the care of the ACSPCA, the largest single intake of animals in the company’s 49-year history.
“Despite the dire conditions in which they were found, we are happy to report that all of the puppies are now thriving!” said the ACSPCA in a recent Facebook post.

The company says seven of the older dogs have been adopted into forever homes while the others continue to receive rehabilitative care on-site; however, the sheer number of dogs rescued proved to be a bit overwhelming for the organization.
“We simply cannot keep all of the dogs until they are ready for adoption. Many require additional rehabilitation. We are actively working with rescues that specialize in rehabilitating aggressive dogs and those from hoarding situations.”
The ACSPCA is working alongside Perry County Animal Rescue-PCoAR to help take in 15 of the most aggressive chihuahuas.
The progress brought many of us to tears, reinforcing what we already knew: these dogs just need love, patience and a quiet home to learn to trust humans again.
Adams County SPCA states that it will continue to provide rehabilitation to the dogs remaining in their care.
