COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is temporarily limiting dog intakes after discovering multiple cases of Streptococcus Zooepidemicus (Strep Zoo).
Starting Thursday, HSPPR will reportedly limit dog intakes to emergency cases only for the next seven days.
According to HSPPR, there have been four cases of Strep Zoo, and none have been fatal due to early detection and preventative treatment.
Adoptions will remain open, and all dogs adopted during this period will have reportedly received prophylactic treatment before leaving HSPPR’s care.
Symptoms of the sickness in dogs include coughing, nasal discharge, vomiting and symptoms worsening within 24 to 48 hours.
