Three Salisbury residents have been charged with animal abuse and more after Wicomico County Sheriff’s deputies and Salisbury Police officers found dead dogs at their residence.
Here’s what we know now.
On Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, deputies responded to 1713 Samuel Lane, Salisbury, in reference to assisting the Salisbury Police Department and Animal Control with a possible animal abuse and neglect case. The Salisbury Police Department advised they observed three dead canines at the rear of the residence while attempting to serve an arrest warrant on one of the residents, Samuel Powell.
At the scene, deputies reported observing three deceased canines at the rear of the residence in various stages of decomposition, still wearing dog collars, and attached to chains impeding the canines’ movements. Animal Control assisted in photographing and recovering the canines’ bodies for necropsies and the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division responded to assist with the investigation.
The suspects were identified as Samuel Powell, Nakia Powell and Miracle Powell, who all reside at the Samuel Laneresidence. All three suspects were charged, after consultation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office,with the following:
- Three counts of abuse or neglect of an animal
- Three counts of causing or authorizing animal abuse or neglect
- Three counts of failing to provide an animal with food, veterinary care, drink, proper shelter and proper protection from the weather
