GREENVILLE — Firefighters were called out to a Greenville blaze Friday that damaged a home.
Augusta County Fire-Rescue Chief Greg Schacht said the fire was called in minutes before noon at a home located at 4614 Lee-Jackson Highway in Greenville.
Schacht said a woman at the home said the fire started in the kitchen, near the back of the home. The chief said the fire was accidental.
The woman managed to get out of the home, but Schacht said two dogs were killed in the fire. Two other dogs survived.
Schacht said the home was “a little cluttered,” making it difficult for firefighters. He said the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes and said the fire was out by about 3 p.m.
The chief said there was heavy heat and smoke damage throughout the home.
The woman was taken to Augusta Health in Fishersville for observation after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Besides county firefighters, the Riverheads Volunteer Fire Department, Middlebrook Volunteer Fire Department, Raphine Volunteer Fire Company, South River Volunteer Fire Department, Stuarts Draft Volunteer Fire Company, Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad and the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad also responded to the scene.
