Monty, a giant schnauzer, was named best in show Tuesday night at the 149th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.
“He always tries so hard, and I’m so proud of him,” Monty’s owner and handler, Katie Bernardin, said in an interview with Fox Sports 1.
Monty is the first giant schnauzer ever to win the dog show, which took place at New York’s Madison Square Garden and is the second-oldest continuous sporting event in the United States.
More than 2,500 dogs, representing all 50 US states, competed this year.
