SPCA brings dog adoptions back to Humane PA facility

Two long-standing animal agencies are joining forces in Lancaster County, bringing new life to an old dog kennel facility. Dozens of shelter dogs are getting some extra love this Valentine’s Day weekend and beyond.Humane PA still owns the main kennel building along Lincoln Highway East. A partnership with Brandywine Valley SPCA has brought dog adoptions back to this center for the first time in years.”It was really important for us to provide a dog adoption service for us here in Lancaster County. We definitely saw the need for more options here,” said Amanda Brunish, the director of marketing at Brandywine Valley SPCA.The SPCA has filled 40 of the kennels with dogs of all shapes and sizes looking for their “fur-ever” homes. “We want to provide a variety of different dogs, different breeds, different sizes, ages,” Brunish said.Humane PA doesn’t adopt dogs out of this location but was happy to partner with the Brandywine SPCA so they could spearhead adoptions at the site.”For years, we thought we could provide everything for everyone ourselves. Then we realized we shouldn’t do what other people can do more effectively than us. Now though, we have the resources, we have the campus,” said Karel Minor, CEO of Humane PA.”Everything we do and everywhere we go, we want to make sure we are giving people options to adopt and not shop,” Brunish said.And if you are looking for a valentine, adoption fees are just $14 for older dogs through this weekend.”These dogs that have come from all walks of life are going to find love in Lancaster County, but the families are going to find love too and to know that we are a part of that is incredibly special,” Brunish said.Each animal is already spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and healthy, so you can take a dog home with you right away.
