GRAND JUNCTION, Tenn. — The 126th running of the prestigious National Field Trials Championship was held Monday.
The event is an annual premier competition for hunting dogs hosted at Ames Plantation in Grand Junction. The competition tests pointer dogs on their hunting abilities on large amounts of land with planted birds.
Three breeds were represented this year: English pointers, English setters and, for the first time ever, German shorthair pointers.
“We appreciate the support of the community. This is a pretty monumental undertaking getting everything ready and we appreciate the owners and handlers promoting this sport. Without them, we wouldn’t be here,” said Matt Buckus, director for the Ames AgResearch and Education Center.
Entries for this event doubled from 2024, proving the current momentum for this sport.
