GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – While watching the Puppy Bowl, people in Gainesville got the chance to take home their Most Valuable Pup.
“It just gets a different group of people to come out and look at the dogs,” shared Kelly Tate, Co-owner of Second Chance Rescue and Rehoming.
Many different rescues brought their paw-some lineup of adoptable dogs to the First Magnitude Brewing Company. Tate says he’s always loved animals, so in 2012 his wife and him started rescuing dogs.
“We got hooked up and connected with Gainesville Pet Rescue years ago, and started volunteering for them as a foster. We failed about six or seven times, ended up adopting all the dogs,” Tate said.
Tate focuses on dogs that may not always get a second chance and rehabilitates them.
“We come every year, and it’s like an immediate yes for us,” shared Olivia Eytcheson, Marketing Manager for Newberry Animal Hopital.
Staff from the Newberry Animal Hospital attended as well. Their goal is to inform people who did adopt a dog on the importance of keeping up with vaccines and checkups.
“It’s good to get established even if they’re healthy. That way down the road, if anything does arise, you’re established somewhere,” said staff member, Megan Embury.
They say getting these dogs out of the shelter and interacting with people is crucial.
“You know a lot of pets, they can get nervous, and you might not be able to see their personality in the shelter. So this is a really great way to get them out in a space they’re more comfortable with,” Eytcheson shared.
If you missed this event, you can always reach out to rescues across North Central Florida to find your very own Most Valuable Pup.
