9-year-old Dale is settling into his forever home after spending more than a year at Burlington Animal Services.
BURLINGTON, N.C. — After spending over a year at Burlington Animal Services (BAS) as the longest-term shelter dog, Dale, a 9-year-old dog, has finally found his forever home.
Dale arrived at BAS in December 2023 after being found in Burlington. While little is known about his past, his wait for adoption was prolonged due to his age and preference for being the only dog in a home.
“It’s not uncommon for people to gravitate towards younger dogs,” said Sydney Herron, community engagement manager with BAS. “Dale also wasn’t a fan of other dogs, which made it harder to find him a home. Many didn’t realize how sweet he is.”
Dale became a shelter favorite for his playful spirit and love of toys. Herron recalled, “He loves toys. He would find any toy around and play with it. He’s also a cuddly boy.” A past Dog Day Out participant described him as “the sweetest boy who loves adventures, hikes, and meeting people.”
On February 6, 2025, Dale’s wait ended when he was finally adopted. Herron shared that several people reached out after seeing a social media post about him. “They all fell in love with his sweet puppy dog eyes and face,” she said.
Burlington Animal Services celebrated the adoption online, posting, “We have such great news that we couldn’t wait until Sunday to post this! Dale was ADOPTED yesterday!!! We are so excited and happy that this sweet senior found a home to live out his golden years in. Happy Tails, Dale!”
