TAMPA, Fla. – Two best friends from Chicago are shining a light on shelter dogs in Hillsborough County through social media.
Big picture view:
Joey Masloski and Eric Noxon travel around to different shelters across the country to take shelter dogs out for a run and on other adventures. Then, they post videos of all the fun to their social media pages under the name “Eric & Joey: The Dog Guys.”

“It’s highlighting shelter dogs, and we feel like we understood social media and how big of an impact that could be,” Masloski said. “What happened was, some of the dogs we took out actually got adopted that same day.”
That’s the goal: To get these dogs more exposure to help them eventually find their forever home.
Local perspective:
The pair recently got in contact with the Team Godwin Foundation, who introduced them to staff at the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center on Friday.
“We still have close to 200 dogs and that’s still a lot of dogs that need homes and need to get out of here,” said Chelsea Waldeck of the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center.
On Friday, Masloski and Noxon took Nimbus, a shelter dog who was “very shy and nervous” when she first arrived at the Pet Resource Center. The 23-year-olds took Nimbus for a run on Bayshore Boulevard and a stroll down Water Street.
They also posted videos of her to their social media pages to show Bay Area dog lovers the sweet side of this shelter dog.
“Being able to help so many lives get changed and helping other people bring in a new part of their family, it’s a really great feeling,” Noxon said.
What’s next:
The Dog Guys told FOX 13 they circle back with the shelters they work with to see if and when the dogs they take out get adopted. So we’ll keep you posted about Nimbus!
