8-year-old girl, man seriously injured in dog attack in Algonquin neighborhood

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A girl and a man were taken to the hospital after a dog attack in the Algonquin neighborhood on April 21.

Louisville police said officers were called to the 1700 block of West Lee Street around 7 p.m. where they found the man in the backyard and an eight-year-old girl inside the house that had been bitten several times by at least two dogs.

The dogs were still there when police arrived. Police said while fearing for the victim’s safety, an officer shot and killed one of the dogs. The second dog ran a short distance away before it was found and killed by an officer as well.

The man was taken to UofL Hospital where police say his injuries are serious to critical. The girl was taken to Norton Children’s Hospital where her injuries as described as serious but non-life-threatening.

Police said the owner of the dogs has been found. The breeds of the dogs are not currently known.

Louisville Metro Animal Services Control Officers are taking over the investigation.
