FOND DU LAC COUNTY (WLUK) — An investigation is underway after 70 dogs were removed from a Fond du Lac County home in “deplorable condition.”
Just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to a residence in the town of Calumet for a welfare complaint. The initial report said there was an “unpleasant odor” coming from the residence.
Deputies attempted contact at the residence and discovered 70 dogs in various stages of health. The home was found to be in deplorable condition, requiring significant attention.
After a judge granted a search warrant, the Sheriff’s Office gained access to the home, which is described as having “unsanitary and hazardous conditions.”
Due to those conditions, the Calumet Fire Department assisted with hazmat equipment, ensuring a safe and thorough removal process. Animal control personnel with the town of Calumet also assisted on scene.
All of the dogs were turned over to theEastshore Humane Association in Chilton to provide “the necessary care and attention to improve their well-being.”
The Sheriff’s Office says an investigation remains open and active. Charges are expected to be filed once the investigation is complete.
Eastshore Humane Association is in need of donations to support the care of these dogs. If you are interested in helping, monetary donations can be mailed to the address below.
