FOND DU LAC COUNTY – An area animal shelter is overwhelmed by the intake of 70 dogs from an animal neglect situation Nov. 6.
After a report of an unpleasant odor coming from a town of Calumet residence, the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home around 11:30 a.m., according to the initial news release from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies found the home in “deplorable” and hazardous condition, with many dogs inside in various stages of health.
The original release estimated 40 to 50 dogs were inside, but according to an update from the sheriff’s office Nov. 7, the final count was 70 dogs.
The dogs were safely removed and turned over to Eastshore Humane Association in Calumet County.
According to the Eastshore Humane Association, the shelter is “already at maximum capacity with a dedicated but small staff,” and has a call for help out on its Facebook page.
The shelter suspended intakes to focus on the dogs and is working with local shelters for assistance. It is welcoming donations of Purina Dog Chow — Little Bites is preferred — Purina Puppy Chow, Purina Pro Plan Wet Dog Food for both puppies and adults, dog bowls and dishes, small dog collars and leashes, potty pads and dog toys.

Monetary donations are accepted through a PayPal Giving Fund link on the shelter’s Facebook page or by check mailed to 1100 Park St., P.O. Box 320, Chilton, WI 53014.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office investigation into the situation is active and ongoing. No other information about the case was immediately available.
