(Fond du Lac) 70 Dogs were discovered in a Calumet home by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning.
At approximately 11:27AM Deputies with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in the Town of Calumet for a check welfare complaint. The initial report was that there was an unpleasant odor coming from the residence. Deputies attempted contact at the residence and discovered 70 dogs in various stages of health.
Ultimately, the Sheriff’s Office gained access to the home after being granted a search warrant by a judge. Due to the unsanitary and hazardous conditions in the home, the Calumet Fire Department was requested to assist with hazmat equipment to ensure a safe and thorough removal process. All the dogs were safely removed from the residence and turned over to Eastshore Humane Association in Chilton, where they will receive the necessary care and attention to improve their well-being. Also assisting on scene was animal control personnel with the Town of Calumet.
An unplanned sheltering of this many animals will require significant resources. Donations can be made to Eastshore Humane Association in Chilton.
The investigation remains ongoing.
