PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Multiple people are without a home and their pet after their house caught fire on Tuesday afternoon in the west Phoenix neighborhood of Maryvale.
Around 3:30 p.m., Phoenix Fire was called to 83rd Avenue and Osborn Road, where smoke was reportedly coming out of a home’s window.
Crews arrived and declared a working fire. They immediately went to work to search the home and attack the flames from the ground and roof.
Firefighters extinguished the fire on the second floor and prevented it from spreading to the attic and nearby rooms.
Firefighters tried to save as many belongings as possible for the residents.
However, seven people were displaced due to damage from the fire and smoke. The residents made it out of the home before the fire crews arrived.
Phoenix Fire says one of the family’s dogs made it out safe. However, another dog was found dead at the scene. A firefighter was taken to the hospital with a minor ankle injury. No other injuries were reported.
The displaced family is receiving help from the Community Assistance Program to find a temporary shelter.
An investigation is underway to find out what caused the fire.
