EL PASO, Texas (CBS4) — 68 dogs from El Paso’s animal shelters were flown to Michigan this morning.
“They’re pretty loud.,” pilot Shayne Bradburn said. “They’re definitely wild. But once we get in the air they get pretty quiet.”
El Paso Animal Services partnered with Dog is my CoPilot, a non profit that flies dogs from overcrowded shelters to places with capacity.
“We’re here to save these dogs from euthanization,” Bradburn said. “Most of these animals come from shelters that are overcrowded.”
One person with ‘I’m Almost Home Animal Rescue’ – a local shelter – said El Paso can’t handle the number of dogs in need.
This area is so inundated with dogs that aren’t wanted,” Lori Shelfer said. “And other places in the country don’t have that issue.
El Paso Animal Services expects to have about such flights in 2024, and said they’ve already flown out over 100 dogs.
They’re seeking help from the community in fostering those in their shelters. If you want to apply to foster a pet, visit their website.
