HERKIMER, N.Y. — The Herkimer County Humane Society has taken in five dogs that were rescued from a barn during a foreclosure process.
The organization reported that the dogs were found matted and one appears to have a tumor.
All the dogs were discovered living on concrete, surrounded by feces, with a horrendous smell emanating from the barn, according to the rescuers.
There was no heat and no ventilation.
Humane society officials have announced that an investigation is currently underway to determine who was responsible for the animals’ care.
These dogs require extensive rehabilitation, and the organization is actively seeking donations through its Facebook page.
So far, they have successfully raised approximately $4,000.
