HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WFIE/Gray News) – Officials in Indiana have released the names of a deceased grandmother and a 4-year-old who was killed during an apparent dog attack on Monday.
Huntingburg police say 53-year-old Olivia Regalado and 4-year-old Evelynn Lopez were found unresponsive at a home in the 100 block of North Geiger Street.
Regalado died as a result of a medical emergency stemming from a preexisting condition, which left 4-year-old Evelynn alone with seven dogs in the home, according to investigators.
The dogs then attacked Lopez for unknown reasons and she later died from her injuries at the hospital.
Officials on scene sedated and euthanized the seven dogs, which included six pit bulls and one poodle-mix, for the safety of everyone involved and for the preservation of evidence. Their remains were taken to the Southern Indiana Purdue Agriculture Center for laboratory testing.
At this time, no criminal charges have been filed.
