VIRGINIA BEACH — Four people and an estimated 50 dogs were displaced after a Princess Anne residence went up in flames Wednesday night, fire officials said.
Units were dispatched to a home off North Landing Road at the 3800 block at around 7:35 p.m. Upon arrival about eight minutes later, firefighters found a heavy smoke around a single-story home.
By 8:06, crews had extinguished the blaze, firefighters said. A Virginia Beach Fire Department spokesperson said three adults and one child were displaced, along with an estimated 50 dogs. Animal control was brought in to safely care for the animals because there were so many, officials said.
A fire department statement said there were no injuries to the residents, firefighters or the pets.
The spokesperson said, as far as they were aware, the residence was just a regular home and not a kennel or a rescue.
Officials determined the cause of the fire was accidental. The blaze is believed to have originated from a bedroom and from an electrical issue. Homeowners declined aid from the Red Cross.
No additional details were immediately available.
