Hundreds of dogs and their human handlers are gathering at the Yolo County Fairgrounds for an event that is scheduled to run all weekend long.The Salty Dog Cluster Dog Show is being hosted by the Redwood Empire Kennel Club and the Chief Solano Kennel Club. Events and activities for dogs and their handlers started Thursday.“For one thing, you see all the beautiful dogs,” explained show chair Ross Allen. “There are literally hundreds of dogs here in almost every dog breed.”Organizers said the four-day show will include the following events:Judging of various dog breedsObedience trials testing dogs’ understanding of commandsRally trials challenging dogs’ ability to follow commands and maneuver hurdlesAmerican Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and trick dog testingPuppies will be getting started in the sport in the AKC Sanctioned 4 and under 6 Months Puppy CompetitionPee-Wee competition, a pre-Junior Showmanship classThe show will also feature various vendors and exhibits.“Every time you come here there’s something new to see,” said Mike Osher, owner/handler of Saint Bernards. “You spend your day going, ‘What’s that? I’ve never seen one of those before!’ It’s just a nice day with good friends, and good people, and good pets.”The Salty Dog Cluster Dog Show event takes place Thursday through Sunday, starting at 8 a.m. Parking is $10 and pirate attire is encouraged. Organizers ask that you leave your own pets at home. Only show dogs are allowed on site.

- Obedience trials testing dogs’ understanding of commands
- Rally trials challenging dogs’ ability to follow commands and maneuver hurdles
- American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and trick dog testing
- Puppies will be getting started in the sport in the AKC Sanctioned 4 and under 6 Months Puppy Competition
- Pee-Wee competition, a pre-Junior Showmanship class
The show will also feature various vendors and exhibits.
