Dog attack critically injures toddler in Brooklyn Park
A child is in critical condition after getting attacked by two dogs in Brooklyn Park on Friday.
At around 12:45 p.m., Brooklyn Park officers responded to a report of a dog attacking a 3-year-old boy on the 7500 block of Brooklyn Park Drive North. Investigators noted the child was visiting the home when the dogs started attacking him.
Once they arrived, police found two pit bulls attacking the boy. Several officers discharged their weapons, killing one dog and injuring the other.
Law enforcement performed life-saving measures on the child before they were brought to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Brooklyn Park police add that another adult was “severely” injured after trying to intervene.
The injured dog was secured and brought to a nearby animal care facility, according to police.
Detectives are on scene and an investigation is currently underway.
Angie Towers lives just up the block from where it happened. She, her daughter and a friend were outside when the police and first responders rushed in.
“Another neighbor said there was two or three. I only heard one,” Towers said of the gunshots.
“[It was] scary, extremely scary. I just made them go in the house and get in the back room. I didn’t know what was going on,” Towers added. “It’s devastating. It’s absolutely horrible.”
A dog owner herself, Towers says her dogs have played with the dogs connected to the attack before without worry.
“The dogs, they’re sweet, they’re nice, or so I thought,” Towers said.
