A 3-year-old boy has died after he was attacked by two dogs inside a home in Rochester, N.Y., officials said Tuesday.
The deadly attack occurred early Saturday afternoon. Officers with the Rochester Police Department responded to a residence on Bidwell Terrace at approximately 1 p.m. after reports that two “pit bull-type” dogs had attacked an infant, local television station WHAM reported.
When officers arrived at the scene they found the injured 3-month-old, who had suffered “severe trauma” to his body in an incident described by Capt. Greg Bello as “incredibly tragic,” according to the Democrat & Chronicle.
The boy was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators said animal control officers removed the dogs from the home, without releasing additional details.
Rochester Police, Child Protective Services and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release an investigation into the circumstances leading to the attack is ongoing.
No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.
