3 Dozen Dogs, Cats Rescued At Somerset Regional Animal Shelter

BRIDGEWATER, NJ — An influx of dogs and cats were rescued at the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter(SRAS) recently.

A dozen dogs were flown up from Florida to make room at shelters down south ahead of Hurricane Milton. And two dozen cats were sent to the shelter in Bridgewater from Newark.

The dogs range in age from three months up to seven years old, said Shelter Manager Brian Bradshaw to Patch.

“Some have medical issues we’re cleaning up, and one has heartworms. So that’s gonna cost a fortune. But other than that, they are doing good,” said Bradshaw.

Caring for the animals along with spaying and neutering them can rack up the bills for the nonprofit shelter.

“The heartworm is like $1,000,” said Bradshaw. “And then bringing six puppies to the veterinarians. And then everybody needs to pay to be neutered. They didn’t come up spayed or neutered. It’s a big, big expense for a little shelter to take on.”

SRAS is a nonprofit organization that services pets in the Somerset County area. The shelter is always in need of donations.

Community members can help the shelter by purchasing supplies from the shelter’s Amazon Wishlist or by making a monetary donation visit srasnj.org/donate.

The shelter is open daily from noon to 3:30 p.m. at 100 Commons Way in Bridgewater. No appointment is necessary.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
