27 dogs take flight to Montana for a chance at a fur-ever home

Friday morning, 27 dogs flew with ‘Dog is my CoPilot’ from Abilene to Montana to live with foster families, in hopes of finding their forever home.

“They don’t have as big of a stray problem in Montana,” Kennel Tech Manager with Rescue the Animals, Sydney Hallmark, said. “So it’s nice that we can take more dogs in here and send some to them where they don’t have that problem.”

Hallmark said their maximum capacity is around 100 dogs and they currently have about 85 dogs at the shelter.

“With getting some dogs out of the kennel and everything, it allows us to take in more that way we don’t have to euthanize for space,” she said. “We don’t typically euthanize anyways, unless it’s medically necessary.”

Once the dogs arrive to Montana, they will already have foster homes lined up for them; that way they do not need to go back into a shelter based environment.

“So it’ll give them a chance to calm down, really start showing their personality,” Hallmark said. “They’ll do meet and greets with the fosters and potential adopters. So it’ll be good for them to get out of an environment that is so high stress and into a home where they can just finally relax.”

Hallmark told us that they have done eight or nine flights like this before.

“In the summer we have one every month until October or November,” she said. “Depending on weather we’ll go later into the year. And then sometimes we have two a month, so we do them quite often, at least once a month.”

Hallmark told us that flying these dogs to Montana is very beneficial because, not only does it help the stray problem in Abilene and make more space in the shelter, but it also makes it easier for some dogs to be able to join a family and live in a real home.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
