A welfare check turned into an animal rescue and the arrest of two people in Anderson County, South Carolina. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office said on July 20 they were called to a home on Old Williamston Road in Anderson and immediately notified Animal Control after witnessing dogs locked up in cages, living in filth. The Animal Control Unit said it found urine-soaked carpet and several dogs needing medical attention.The unit seized 26 small-bred dogs, mostly Shih Tzus, during a search warrant and took them to Anderson County PAWS for medical evaluation.Dessie Kight, 46, and Christian Voitle, 61, are each facing 26 counts of ill-treatment of animals.On July 30, both suspects were booked into the Anderson County Detention Center.
