24 dogs abandoned in Tell City home

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – A TikTok video of 24 abandoned dogs in Tell City has been seen by thousands.

And now, community members want to help.

The video shows the dogs inside a home covered in feces and trash.

Ann Kessinger, the manager at Rivers Edge Animal Shelter, tells us the county has no animal control, so law enforcement called them just over a week ago. They only had two kennels open, but worked all week to get the dogs out of the home.

Kessinger says she accidentally posted the video to her personal account that didn’t have many followers.

Despite that, the video spread.

“It has like 400,000 views or something like that. It’s actually overwhelming because I feel like I have to keep up and keep everyone updated now. So yeah, that was an accident, but it’s been amazing. It’s been really exciting actually,” she said.

Kessinger says there have been dozens of adoption applications.

She says at Rivers Edge Animal Shelter, they only have four people- herself, a director, and two teenagers who help clean kennels.

She says they were brought in after the people who lived in the home were no longer able to stay there.

Kessinger says the dogs are not socialized, and she was even bitten by one of them.

She says the dogs that were friendly had very sharp claws and ripped up the gowns they were wearing.

Of course, the smell was terrible, and Kessinger says they had to put newspaper down to keep from slipping on all the animal waste. But, she says that wasn’t their biggest concern.

“We work at an animal shelter. We are used to gross things. So we just booted up, gloved up, and carried them out if we could. Most of our worry is ‘what happens now?’ ‘what kind of help can we get now?” she said.

Now, 37 dogs are at the shelter, but they only have 24 kennels.

Donations are needed for things like vet care.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
