CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Animal Rescue Corps said on Tuesday that 23 dogs and puppies were rescued from “severely neglectful” conditions inside a trailer in Cumberland County.
ARC said the animals were surrendered after being rescued from the trailer in Crossville.
According to the nonprofit, the small mix-breed dogs were running loose on urine-soaked, feces-covered floors and broken furniture with make-shift fencing inside the trailer.
Of the 23 dogs, seven of them were young puppies only a few weeks old, and officials said they were found covered in feces.
“Because of the lack of veterinary care and the unsanitary, inhumane living conditions, the dogs were suffering from internal and external parasites (such as fleas and ticks) and high ammonia exposure,” the nonprofit said. “The situation is the result of neglectful breeding of unaltered dogs in a confined space.”
ARC said the dogs were taken to their rescue center, located in Gallatin. There, they will receive a thorough veterinary exam, vaccinations and necessary medical treatments before being taken to partner organizations that will adopt them into loving homes.
“The new year will be a fresh start for these dogs and pups,” said Amy Haverstick, ARC’s Director of Operations. “Their future is much brighter and I’m happy we were able to assist them.”
This was the third rescue in the last eight days in Tennessee after neglected dogs were found “surrounded by skulls and bones” and nine dogs were rescued from a breeding operation.
