2 Sonoma County police dogs retire after years of dedicated service

Two Sonoma County police dogs recently worked their last shifts.

Max, from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and Kane, from the Santa Rosa Police Department, retired this month. Both retirements were announced on social media.

The Sonoma Sheriff’s County Office thanked Max for his service in an Aug. 10 Facebook post. His last day was Aug. 5,

Max, originally from Mexico, joined the office in March 2016 at 13 months old. In his eight and a half years of service he was trained in narcotics detection, suspect location and apprehension. Max spent time working with the SWAT team where he assisted with 157 arrests, according to the post.

Santa Rosa Police Department’s Kane’s retirement was announced in an Aug. 14 Facebook post.

The 9-year-old Belgian Malinois spent six years alongside Officer Garrett Berg.

“Kane’s retirement plans include: spending time with his human family, chewing on all the kids’ toys and running on the beach every chance he gets,” said police in the post.

According to the post, Kane and Breg “devoted thousands of hours to rigorous training, consistently demonstrating a high level of proficiency in handler protection, suspect apprehension, and narcotics detection.”

Both dogs were wished well in their retirement.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
