BIENVILLE PARISH, La. (KSLA) – Two people have been arrested for alleged cruelty to animals.
The Bienville Parish Sheriff’s Office says Tanya Michelle Griffith, 32, and Allen Tyler Meylian, 29, are both facing 32 counts of cruelty to animals.
CRIME IN THE ARKLATEX
The Humane Society of Louisiana (HSL) says in July, sheriff’s office deputies went out to a house in the 400 block of Lawhorn Road in Jamestown after getting complaints about dogs there living in poor conditions. Officials say there were originally 34 dogs at the home, but one died on the scene. Another died en route to another location. Furthermore, the Humane Society says five other dogs had to be euthanized because they were deemed too aggressive and posed a public safety risk.

The HSL says they were notified about the dogs and reached out to the Bissell Pet Foundation, which has been active in the state for a number of years, providing resources and grants to rehome pets from shelters and other places. The foundation agreed to take custody of the remaining 26 dogs that were rescued. The dogs were moved to foundation’s headquarters in Michigan over the past couple of weeks.
However, HSL is raising money to offset the cost of boarding, feeding, and providing medical care to the dogs over the last 10 days. They say they’ve spent more than $5,000 on these dogs. Anyone who wants to donate can do so on Venmo (@HumaneLA), or via PayPal (humanela@gmail.com). Checks or money orders can be sent to P.O. Box 740321, New Orleans, LA 70174.

“This was a very big enterprise. Sometimes, treating one neglected dog takes hundreds or even a thousand dollars. Imagine the resources needed to house and heal 26 mistreated dogs and puppies,” said Jeff Dorson, HSL director. “That is why we’re hoping people in the Bienville community and surrounding region will donate what they can to help.”
