
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WSET) — Two people, two dogs and a bird are displaced after a house fire in Roanoke County on Wednesday, firefighters say.
Around 1:52 p.m., Roanoke County Fire and Rescue responded to the 6000 block of Poage Valley Road in southern Roanoke County for the report of a residential structure.

Firefighters say that they initially did not see anything from the outside of the home until they went around back and saw smoke.
Two adults, two dogs and a bird were all able to safely escape thanks to their smoke alarms. Officials say that there were no injuries.
Officials say that the fire is believed to have started in the chimney and extended into the walls and floor of the home.
The fire was brought under control in about 45 minutes.
The two adults and the animals will be displaced, but officials say they will be staying with friends in the area.
The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office is on scene to investigate the cause and provide a damage estimate.
