FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio (WSYX) — Two dogs perished as crews battled a fire at a home in Fairfield County early Tuesday morning.
The people who lived in the home were confirmed to be OK later in the morning at another location.
The fire began at about 3:30 a.m. at the house on Quarry Road Southeast in Berne Township near the Lancaster area.
Fairfield County Sheriff Alex Lape initially said as many as five people had been missing following the fire, but all occupants were later determined to be OK elsewhere in Lancaster, ABC 6’s Nick Viland reported.
A neighbor said he woke up to his dogs barking with all of the chaos happening.
“Usually sleep through the night, so definitely it was an alert,” Michael Small said. “That something was going on whether it was somebody outside or what, but I was pretty quick to figure out as soon as we looked out the window, you could see the huge glow. And like I said, it was fully engulfed.”
It’s not known what caused the fire, but the home is a total loss.
