CITRA, Fla. (WCJB) – Officials with Marion County Fire Rescue say they responded to reports of smoke coming out of the windows, doors, and roof of the home just after 2 o’clock on Tuesday.
Agencies from Anthony, Fort McCoy, Lowell, and Orange Lake came together to help extinguish the flames.
Officials say the fire was contained by 2:30 but they unfortunately found two dogs dead inside.
One resident who lives nearby says he knew the homeowner and his animals.
“He had a Shih Tzu and like a boxer mix dog. Them are the 2 that died and they were good dogs. He was always out here playing with them and whatnot.” said neighbor, Robert Schlentner.
Schlentner says neighbors will also try to create a GoFundMe for the homeowner.
“The community is strong and pulling together you know everybody helps out you know. I’ve seen some of the neighbors over here helping out,” said Schlentner.
Officials say the cause of the fire is still under investigation and there were no other injuries.
