2 dogs killed in Brunswick Hills house fire

BRUNSWICK HILLS, Ohio (WOIO) – The fire that broke out in a Brunswick Hills house claimed the lives of the owner’s two dogs, the fire department confirmed.

The Brunswick Hills Fire Department said is the second house fire in the township, and third significant fire in Medina County, in eight days.

First responders from Brunswick Hills and mutual aid departments were sent to the house fire on Edmund Court at approximately 12:55 p.m. on Oct. 24, said BHFD.

Crews arrived to find heavy smoke conditions and the homeowner outside, according to BHFD.

The homeowner told firefighters two dogs were still inside the house, BHFD reported.

BHFD said crews used a preconnected hose line to attack the kitchen fire.

Additional firefighters searched the home and found the two dogs, according to BHFD.

Firefighters got the dogs out of the house and performed life saving measures, said BHFD.

Despite their efforts, BHFD confirmed the dogs died from inhaling the smoke.

The Medina County Fire Investigation Task Force is investigating the blaze.

The cause and extent of the damage are unknown at this time.

BHFD said the following agencies assisted on scene:

  • Brunswick Division of Fire
  • Hinckley Township Fire Department
  • North Royalton Fire Department
  • City of Strongsville Fire Department
