According to a post from the county animal control, the two dogs were shot in the head and thrown in a ditch near Tiskilwa.
TISKILWA, Ill — Authorities are searching for answers after two dogs were found shot and discarded in a roadside ditch in Bureau County.
The disturbing discovery was made Tuesday when the animals were found with gunshot wounds to the head. According to Bureau County Animal Control, evidence suggests the two dogs were taken to the location near Tiskilwa alive and then were shot in the head before being thrown into the ditch a few feet away.
The dogs had no collars or microchips. One was a tan, younger male of a hound-type breed, while the other was an older, white and orange male that may have been blind in one eye. The dogs have been taken to a veterinarian for cremation.
A photo of the deceased dogs was posted on the Bureau County Animal Control Facebook page and may enable community members to help investigators identify the dogs’ owner. Please note that the photo is graphic and disturbing.
Investigators believe the individual responsible may be local, as the remote location suggests familiarity with the area. Officials urge anyone who may recognize the dogs or knows of someone recently missing two dogs to come forward.
