Two people living on Pioneer Road in Evans City escaped without injury when a fire burned their mobile home early Saturday morning, June 7, but their two dogs died in the fire.
Matt Otto, chief of Evans City Volunteer Fire Department, said the call for the fire came in at 1:55 a.m. in the 100 block of Pioneer Road and crews arrived on scene to see fire bursting through windows in the rear end of the building and the back part of the roof on fire.
It would take two hours and 45 minutes before crews cleared the scene and then some were called back a few hours later to deal with some spot fires, according to Otto.
“Our engine was first on scene, and we saw fire coming out the back windows. The back was fully involved,” Otto said.
Otto said the department has called for a state fire marshal to check the site but, as of now, there is no suspicious activity suspected related to the fire’s cause.
While two dogs died in the fire, Otto said the homeowners had insurance and fire crews were able to rescue four pet snakes from the home.
Adams Area Fire District, Callery Volunteer Fire Company, Cranberry Township VFC and Harmony Fire District also responded to the scene.
