2 dogs, cat die in Washougal fire

WASHOUGAL, Wash. (KPTV) – Three pets died and two others are unaccounted for after a fire in Washougal on Thursday evening.

Just after 5:30 p.m., East County Fire & Rescue crews were called out to a fire in an outbuilding in the 34900 block of Southeast 20th Street. First crews on scene found a 20-by-40 shed with a travel trailer inside completely involved in fire.

Officials say crews were able to contained the fire to the involved structure and trailer.

The Milwaukie Police Department is asking for the public’s help finding a driver who fled after hitting a dog on Highway 224.

People inside the trailer were able to get out safely. Sadly, two dogs and a cat died in the fire. Officials say another dog and cat are unaccounted for.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.
