2 Dogs, 1 Cat Die In Fire; LI Man Charged With Arson: PD

PLAINVIEW, NY — A Plainview man was arrested after he set a fire in the Plainview residence where he lived that left two dogs and one cat dead, and two firefighters injured, police said.

According to Nassau County police, the fire took place at 7:50 p.m. at an Eileen Avenue home. The Bethpage Fire Department responded with the assistance of several neighboring fire departments and extinguished the flames, police said.

Jahan Kia, 40, a tenant of the residence, was found responsible for starting a fire on the basement stairwell and was placed into custody, police said. He was charged with third-degree arson; second-degree criminal mischief; and torturing/injuring animals, police said.

He will be arraigned on Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.

There were no residents inside the house but two dogs and one cat were found deceased inside the home due to the fire, police said.

Nassau County fire Marshals and the Nassau County Police Department’s arson and bomb squad responded to the scene, police said.

Two firefighters suffered injuries as a result of the fire and were transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation and burns to the hands; no further injuries were reported, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
