DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — More than 100 dogs have been rescued from a suspected puppy mill in northern Davidson County, and two people are now facing multiple animal cruelty charges, according to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
In December 2024, deputies launched an animal cruelty investigation after receiving a tip about a possible puppy mill operating in unsanitary conditions. Investigators identified Roger and Robin McLean as the individuals in possession of over 100 domestic dogs.
Deputies issued multiple cruelty compliance orders, and with the help of rescue organizations, the animals were removed from the property and received needed care.
Animal rescue groups, including Every Snout Counts Animal Rescue and Animal Care Foundation, worked around the clock to care for the dogs. Many were placed with fosters or rescue partners across North Carolina, Virginia, and New Hampshire, according to deputies.
Sheriff Richie Simmons also thanked several additional rescue groups for their efforts, including Safe at Last Rescue, Love Mutts Rescue, Rusty’s Ranch, Piedmont Animal Rescue, and the Forsyth Humane Society, among others.
Roger and Robin McLean are charged with 26 counts of animal cruelty, violation of a local ordinance for noncompliance, and failure to provide rabies vaccinations.
