SURPRISE, AZ (AZFamily) — Police say a man and woman have turned themself into the authorities after a video went viral showing someone dumping a dog on the side of a road near a walking trail in Surprise over the weekend.
On Monday, 20-year-old Logan Gambill from Wittmann and 26-year-old Priscilla Galanos from Phoenix turned themself into police.
As Arizona’s Family reported, video from a nearby homeowner showed a red SUV backing up on the roadway, showing someone pushing the dog out while someone was heard saying “bye-bye.”
Investigators say they used the homeowner’s video to help identify those inside the SUV, and after being interviewed, detectives learned that Galanos was the dog’s owner.
Galanos is facing a misdemeanor animal cruelty charge and Gambill is facing a misdemeanor conspiracy to commit animal cruelty charge.
“I was angered. I was flabbergasted, shocked. Just so many emotions,” said Joanna Buesen, the homeowner who posted the video on social media.
She said the dog was malnourished but well-behaved. “Anything that’s innocent deserves justice. I honestly believe that,” said Buesen.
Surprise police say they plan to turn the dog over to the Arizona Humane Society later this week. Authorities stress that those who cannot care for an animal to ask for help from the community or to call a nearby shelter for assistance.
Booking photos for Galanos and Gambill were not immediately released.
