STARK COUNTY, Ohio — A Stark County Sheriff’s deputy shot and killed two loose dogs after they reportedly became aggressive and cornered him outside a home in Canton, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident happened on Sunday, May 4, in the 2200 block of 22nd Street NE, where homeowners called for help after the dogs they had been feeding began acting aggressively.
A deputy with the Dog Warden Division responded and spoke to the homeowners through their Ring doorbell camera.
During the encounter, the dogs allegedly charged at the deputy and trapped him between the house and a vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The deputy then fired his weapon, killing both dogs.
Authorities used microchip information to identify the dog’s owner, who lives several miles away.
He told deputies the dogs had been running loose since May 3 and was cited for allowing them to roam at large.
