14 dogs rescued from overwhelmed owner citing health issues

SAN ANTONIO – On Monday, March 31, Bexar County Animal Control took in over a dozen dogs voluntarily surrendered by their owner at a property off the 2500 block of Robert Jared Road in County Precinct 1.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control had been monitoring the situation for months, offering support before coming together to coordinate the removal. The owner, citing health issues, agreed to surrender the dogs, which included two previously given up on March 13.

Two animal control officers sustained minor scratches during the removal and were treated on-site.

All animals will undergo quarantine and medical evaluation.

“When use a public health lens to assess mental or physical challenges of pet owners, we begin to see how these factors contribute to the accumulation of a large number of animals and the inability to provide appropriate care,” said Dr. Andrea Guerrero, Director of County Preventative Public Health. “We’re here to help both the owners and the animals.”

Residents in unincorporated Bexar County can report stray dogs to Bexar County Animal Control at 210-335-9000. In case of an emergency, please call 911.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
