PORTLAND, Ore. — Fourteen furry and friendly faces arrived at PDX Monday looking for their second chance here in the Pacific Northwest.
According to the Humane Society for Southwest Washington, the 14 pitbull mixes were rescued from a suspected dog fighting operation in New Jersey earlier this year.
The dogs’ arrival in Portland was organized between the HSSW and Wings of Rescue, a public charity that flies abandoned, homeless, and at-risk pets from overcrowded shelters and disaster areas to shelters with available space without displacing any locally-sheltered pets.
Despite record-setting 102-degree heat at Portland International Airport, the dogs and the volunteers helping them all seemed to be in high spirits as the pups were transported from the plane to trucks that would take them to the shelter.
The humane society says despite their rough start to life, these dogs are ready to leave that all behind and meet new loving families.
120 dogs in total were rescued from the dog fighting ring, and animal shelters around the country have been stepping up to help them find new homes.
“Dogs confiscated from situations such as these often make terrific pets,” the HSSW says, and those interested in adopting can find more information on the society’s WEBSITE.
