PIERCE COUNTY, Ga. — A criminal investigation is underway after nearly 140 dogs were seized from a Georgia kennel, according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

The Georgia Department of Agriculture received a tip about alleged animal abuse at a kennel in Pierce County. Investigators found violations of the department’s rules and regulations.
When authorities searched the kennel, they found 136 neglected dogs and other live animals. The animals were taken to another location for immediate medical care.
“Our Law Enforcement Division is working every day to send a clear message that crime in Georgia’s agricultural sector – from animal abuse to drug and labor trafficking and everything in between – will not be tolerated, and our Companion Animal & Equine team works diligently each day to ensure our state’s companion animals and equine are properly cared for,” Agriculture Commissioner Tyler J Harper said.
Officials have not said if anyone was arrested or facing charges.

The GDOA is working with local rescue groups to rehome or foster the animals. The rescue groups include: Renegade Paws Rescue, K9 Battle Buddies, Allmon’s All About Animals, Liberty County Animal Services, Atlanta Humane Society, and Humane Society of Greater Savannah.
