13 dogs, 2 birds dead after fire causes high carbon monoxide levels in Iowa City home

IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Firefighters in Iowa City were able to rescue one dog, but found 13 dogs and two birds dead in a home that had high levels of carbon monoxide on Monday evening.

Crews were called to the 200 block of Bancroft Drive just before 8 p.m. for a carbon monoxide problem reported by MidAmerican Energy.

Investigators said there had been a fire, but it self-extinguished due to lack of oxygen, creating high levels of carbon monoxide inside the home.

Firefighters found 13 dead dogs and two dead birds inside, but were able to rescue one dog. First responders provided life-saving care to the dog.

The two people that lived at the home were not injured, but they have been displaced by the incident.

The fire caused about $3,000 in damage to the home. Officials have not said what started the fire. It remains under investigations.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
