LANCASTER, Pa. (WHP) — Authorities are currently investigating an animal cruelty case where multiple injured dogs had to be rescued from unsanitary living conditions on Wednesday.
Lancaster Township Police put out a release about the incident, saying that officers were called to a home on the 100 block of Sterling Place around 2:46 p.m. after being alerted to dogs in the backyard that were “excessively barking and attacking each other.”
When they investigated the home, officers found the seven dogs living in “unsanitary conditions” having open wounds, sores, and matted fur.
Further investigation revealed three more dogs, injured, in makeshift crates.
Two of those three were found to be “severely injured” and were rushed to Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties Hospital.
The canines found in the backyard had been living in feces, urine, and otherwise “poor physical condition”, according to authorities, and were seized by Pennsylvania SPCA.
One other dog was also found in the backyard deceased.
Lancaster Township Police said the investigation is ongoing and pending a medical evaluation of the dogs and a “necropsy of the deceased dog.”
No charges or suspects have been announced at this time.
